We built the event space at the station to host a lot of events and we are getting a lot of interest in hosting weddings here. Vancouver Island University and the Deep Bay Marine Field Station are please to join the Regional District of Nanaimo in celebrating Youth Week. Oceanside residents, young and old, are invited to an Open House at the new Deep Bay Field Station on May 3rd from 3:00 pm – 6:00pm. Come learn about the things we do, new opportunities for students and youth being created by the Field Station and about student opportunities in our marine science and resource programs at VIU.

Last night the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board awarded the Deep Bay Marine Field Station as a finalist in the Vancouver Island Commercial Building Awards. VIREB also recently made a significant contribution to scholarships at VIU. Thanks for your support!

We are all about collaboration and partnerships. As we come on line, our first culinary partnership came into play this week.
Through the Culinary Institute of Vancouver island we were approached by Rational Canada to be a demonstration Center for their products. Rational generously provided one of their Self Cooking Centers to the Station and and will be using it for cooking demos and training. Very cool and we all win 
. This week, Rational Executive Chef Dwayne Botchar commissioned and debuted the oven, although we are starting to think it may be closer to a Star Trek replicator. Read the rest of this entry »
