“Lighthouse Country” is located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, across from Denman and Hornby Islands, incorporating the small communities of Horne Lake, Qualicum Bay, Bowser and Deep Bay. We at Vancouver Island University are excited about becoming a member of the Lighthouse Country community. We are liaising with the Lighthouse Country Business Association about how we can best work within the community.
This includes looking for feedback from the community on:
- What we should be reflecting in our development and activities;
- The kinds of programs and activities community members would like to see at the Field Station;.
- Potential linkages between current/future activities and the Field Station and;
- How can we work best with the community and regularly get input and feedback?
If you have comments or ideas please contact Brian Kingzett, Field Station Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org
We recently held an advance tour for members of the Lighthouse Country Business Association and had a fun reception after at the Deep Bay Yacht Club, where Chef Debbie Shore from the Culinary Institute of Vancouver Island and Brian Kingzett shucked oysters from local grower, Stellar Bay Shellfish Ltd. As we move forward we’ll look forward to more community activities and open houses at our opening.
Linda Tenney at the Beacon Magazine wrote an editorial this month about the possibilities that the Station has for the community, if you didn’t get a copy of the magazine, you can download the editorial with photo of Debbie and Brian. Linda also shared her thoughts on how the new facility might benefit her rural community on air with Dave Graham of 88.5 The Beach radio in Parksville.
