One month to go to the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup presented by Loblaw Companies Limited. The Field Station is going to coordinate a shoreline clean-up of Deep Bay Harbour and Spit on Saturday September 17th.
The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup is a joint conservation initiative of the Vancouver Aquarium and WWF, it is about removing shoreline litter to help create healthy waters for everyone, including the wildlife and communities that depend on them. It is a participant-driven event whereby volunteers, such as our group, register to coordinate shoreline cleanup events in their local community during the month of September. We’re already undertaking research projects to reduce aquaculture related debris and on Saturday the 17th we’re going to organize volunteers to help clean up the bay.
What: Help clean up Deep Bay and spit of marine garbage, debris and litter. We’ll supply garbage bags, gloves, will send our truck out to pick up garbage bags from volunteers and then load our dumpster.
When: Saturday September 17th at 1000 AM
Where – Meet at the Field Station (directions) to register your participation for equipment and directions. We’ll arrange for refreshments and a few prizes afterwards.
RSVP – Going to join us? Send me a note to firstname.lastname@example.org and or register online at the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup Deep Bay page.
What else can you do?: Besides coming out and helping? Help support our activities at the station by donating – in this case by helping pay for garbage disposal and gear. Or better yet organize your own clean-up
