Seafood and the seafood economy is vital to Vancouver Island and to BC. VIU has excellent research infrastructure capacity, teaching programs in fisheries and aquaculture, culinary arts, business, etc. We have interdisciplinary research centres including our Institute for Coastal Research. A new aquatic foods initiative is the newest addition to VIU’s unique BC seafood niche, providing a catalytic leadership role internally and externally to facilitate collaboration and public engagement, fostering research, dialogue and innovation on seafood issues in BC.
Our first event is a talk by Peter Ladner, local food advocate, author and former Vancouver City Councillor. Opening remarks will be made by VIU President, Dr. Ralph Nilson
Refreshments will be served. Come and hear Peter talk about his new book: The Urban Food Revolution. Changing the Way we Feed Cities; and feature some thoughts on sustainable seafood issues for Vancouver Island.
