Shellfish Salon: Travel Report – Oyster culture in Tasmania and NSW Australia

Pelican on Australian Oyster Farm

AKA our first Shellfish Grower Coffee Shop   April 24, 200-3:30  at the Field Station

We’re going to play with the idea of doing a Shellfish Salon which is kind of a sophisticated term for getting together to exchange ideas around a certain topic (locally known as a BS over a coffee).  Brian Kingzett traveled to Tasmania in February to contribute to planning of a local aquaculture research centre.  Afterwards he took a week of holidays visiting oyster farms, hatcheries and nurseries in New South Wales, Australia

Come share in a presentation of photos and culture techniques observed in this very informal discussion at the Deep Bay Marine Field Station.  We’ll have the coffee on and some cookies.  Admission is free, but we’d really appreciate a donation of $10 for the coffee and cookies and to help support the Field Station.

If this works and there is enthusiasm we’ll make it a monthly event with topics of interest.

Driving Directions Here

From Wikipedia:   A salon is a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation.
