Provide public education programs and community outreach under the direction of the Facility Coordinator. Be responsible for interpreting exhibits, seawater touch tank and aquarium displays for visitors. Teach engaging, hands-on, marine science activities in seawater and teaching labs, and lead interpretive tours of the facility, effectively engaging visitors from a range of backgrounds and ages (Kindergarten to Adult) in science activities. Support the Facility Coordinator in development and funding of K-12, vocational, First Nations and community programs.

Be a key part of the team responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Deep Bay Marine Field Station, a cost-recovery division. Support the Facility Coordinator in public engagement and hospitality activities including: providing customer service for the general public, visitors and industry clients; managing booking calendars, event planning, and delivery.

Assist with supervising volunteers, scheduling and managing bookings. Assist Station staff in preparation and delivery of activities such as the setup of facilities for meetings, school programs, conferences, or special events. Work with management team on advertising and Field Station publicity activities.

Conduct and maintain the efficient operation of the retail sales area, report sales, handle cash, track inventory, and provide the day-to-day operations of the Station’s retail area.

Note: All employees and management staff of the Deep Bay Marine Field Station need to be able to provide maintenance (feeding, water quality checks etc.) for live animal-stock of past or on-going research activities. Only activities that are considered Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), with documented instructions, will apply. Any extraordinary activities outside of the SOP will only be performed at the direction of the primary researcher or senior management of the Deep Bay Marine Field Station should neither be on site or available.
